"Rocking" School Spirit at Carver

MARCH 6, 2017 - After 10 years without a Spirit Rock, Carver High School now has two.  Thanks to a donation from Vulcan Building Materials, two eight-foot tall rocks weighing over 24, 000 pounds were delivered Monday.

The two rocks came from Vulcan's North Quarry. Cranes lowered them into place as the Carver Marching Band jazzed up the crowd which included students, faculty, and representatives from Vulcan.

Vulcan Building Materials is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates—primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel—and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials, including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete.  Local representatives, Steve Jones and Joe Hall have been instrumental in making the Spirit Rocks a reality.

Mr. DeWayne Tillman (Carver High School's Teacher of the Year) has been the coordinator of AOHT (The NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism) since 2015. Since then, he has been instrumental in helping to reestablish the pride and spirit of Carver High School.

NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism is part of NAF’s national network of education, business, and community leaders who work together to ensure high school students are college, career, and future ready.
